I believe that my dog has diabetes. She is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and weighs about 120 pounds. Can anyone give me an estimate on insulin costs and syringes? I plan to take her to the vet either way, I just wanted to be prepared. Thank you.

I’m hoping to design a better diabetes meter, but am not actually diabetic myself. Those of you with diabetes, what would you like to see in a new product? Thanks!

Treatments For Diabetes - What You Should Know About It

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

What exactly is diabetes and why is it such a dreaded disease so much so that it is often referred to as the “silent killer”? Diabetes occurs when there are high levels of blood sugar cause due to the levels of insulin. When this becomes too low, a condition known as diabetes forms. There are three main kinds of diabetes: Type 1, Type 2 and a condition that is often caused by pregnancy called gestational diabetes. This type usually resolves on its own after the baby is born.
Common treatments for diabetes consist of eating healthier, getting plenty of exercise, losing weight and in severe cases taking insulin. You can take insulin in many forms and the severity of your diabetes will determine the treatment. Insulin comes in the following forms, oral, injection or the alternative insulin pump. When on insulin you must monitor your blood sugar daily. Type 2 Diabetes sufferers may need to take an oral medication in addition to the insulin to control their blood sugar.

If the blood sugar level drops too low, then a person develops hypoglycemia. This is characterized by nervousness, shakiness, and confusion. A person can even faint if the level drops too low.

You may be the type of person who would rather not take insulin the rest of your life or poke needles in yourself, possibly many times per day. There is hope if this is your train of thought; many people have found natural treatments to be the answer for them. Here are a few you might be interested in.

The masseuse massages the muscles so that they become relaxed and manipulated. This is done to improve the patient’s health conditions. Did you know that getting a massage is really a form of passive exercise? In the treatment for diabetes, it helps to relieve the tension in our muscles and helps to reduce stress by calming down your nervous system.

The many different methods of massage techniques that are geared toward diabetics have made it a favorite for curing diabetes. Advanced methods help improve the health of the diabetic by removing toxins from the blood stream and increasing circulation.

An alternative to using mudpacks is to take a mud bath. The patient shall sit in disinfected mud just like he was taking a bath. This shall be done for 30 to 90 minutes. This method is much more costly than mudpacks, however.

Another treatment for diabetes is detoxification. You must get a controlled diet plan from your physician or health agency. It may be necessary to use supplements along with the diet in order to eliminate the toxins in your body. There are many of detoxification diet plans available. However, in order to recover from your diabetes, you must follow these diet plans to the letter.

#4 Acupressure

This is a great alternative treatment for diabetes and other illnesses; however, you should always consult a medical professional before using this kind of treatment. Take charge of your own health and wellness.

Acupressure should only be done by a certified practitioner. Set up an appointment with him or her and discuss exactly what you want to see happen from your acupressure visits. Also ask him or her if they have had any success in using acupressure in the treatment for diabetes.

Is having diabetes and insulin dependent considered a disability legally?

kitty asked:

I have a friend who was told her can’t get his driving permit or license untill he goes 2 or 2 whole years w/o a seizure from his diabetes. He is almost 18 now. He is insulin dependant. He has to take it after EVERYTHING he eats. I understand people will say “diabetes is a disease not a disability” but I beg to differ. A disease such as diabetes can also be a disability in alot of cases! I just need some other opinions on this.

I’m 19, I’m worried I may have diabetes and I don’t have health coverage/insurance so I can’t go see a doctor. Is there a cheap way to check if you have it without having to go see a doctor?
Thanks for the tips guys but I don’t know anyone close to me who has diabetes, none of my friends got it. I don’t think anyone in my family has it so I can’t go to them for help. I’m not overweight either.

Camellia asked:

Why do you think so many more people are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in recent years than ever before? One of my guesses is all of the preservatives and junk that has been included in people’s diets as more prepared foods have been in the markets, and fast foods.
Everyone had helpful information about diabetes factors. Thanks for the comments. :)
